Does anyone know if there's a big after market for the w123 300D cars? (Could I buy parts cheap?)

Last time I checked the words Mercedes and cheap parts were not compatible. :)

There's a lot of W123 parts around. As I understand it, you can still get any part for it from Mercedes, although you may have to pay through the nose depending on how much demand for it there is. You can also find pattern parts for anything in reasonable demand. Lots of parts available from breakers as well.
I haven't owned a 123, but I did a bit of research when I was looking at fixing one up. In general, most parts are fairly affordable, but every now and again you'll run across something that's priced through the roof. If it's a rubber grommet or something, you'll just grumble about paying $20 for a washer, but if it's something more major you could be looking at hundreds of dollars for a single part if you can't find it elsewhere.
The 3 litre diesel is legendarily reliable, so I'd assume there's good parts availability, but you might want to check.

Buy complete and well-cared-for Mercedes-Benzes, or don't buy them at all.

On a related note, is there a good aftermarket and parts support for Mercedes-Benz W114/W115s?

Aftermarket and Mercedes parts do not go hand in hand. If your going to fix a merc you need genuine parts. Otherwise the aftermarket parts will fail you and you'll be left spending more money. I have a W114 240d, a W123 300d, and a W116 450sel 6.9 euro. None of the cars have ever failed me, all repaired with Mercedes parts.

When I had my W123 240D most of the parts were very reasonable...alternators, water pumps, brake pads. But they'd kill you with cruise control modules, climate control stuff, etc.

The W123 is the only Mercedes as far as I know with reasonable if not dirt cheap parts. There is a huge variety of brands and as usual the cheapest will be the shittiest. I have a 240d and everything has been reasonable for it. I think parts can be so cheap since MB made about a billion of these and they were used as taxi's everywhere. Some parts are getting harder to find for them and you may get stuck with a used part. Case in point a rear control arm(common rust item). No one makes them anymore and when MB still had them it was $1800 for the part. I got a used MB one for $220.
